I had just gotten out of jail like the week before and I wanted to take advantage of being a free man and being a LA resident so I decided to go a taping of any late night talk show. While I was looking up what guest were on, I saw Lady Antebellum was going to be part of Jimmy Kimmels outdoor concert series. I was stoked. I immediately signed up for tickets.
I’ve gone to a taping of Jimmy Kimmel (saw Rodney Dangerfield before he died) before but not to the outdoor concert thingy they have outside. The venue is pretty much a parking lot. It’s located behind where they film Jimmy Kimmel at El Capitan Theatre. It’s like if Warped Tour set up a permanent stage with TV’s and camera crew.
While you wait, you’re watching the show that they’re taping inside on the TV’s outside that they have on the sides of the stage. Then the hype man comes out and lets you know to go crazy cause you’re on TV and blah blah blah. The taping wasn’t sold out. It wasn’t even half full which really isn’t a shocker. I’m pretty sure nobody in LA listens to country other than me. LA didn’t even have a country station for a while.
I’ve never seen Lady Antebellum and they’ve been on the must see list for a while now, so I was pretty excited to see them. They played “Need You Now” and then went to a commercial break. Then they played “American Honey” as the show went off the air. I was worried all they were gonna play was one or two songs. After they ended the show though, they kept playing. :-) They played three more songs for a total of 5 songs. Beings at the time they only had one CD out (the new one hadn’t been released yet) It was like watching their greatest hits and that’s it. I was satisfied. Overall good night.
